What is the role of the Business Manager?

The Business Manager oversees the union’s daily operations, enforces the bylaws, appoints Stewards, ensures fair job distribution, and represents members in labor matters.

What are the duties of a Steward?

Stewards are appointed by the Business Manager to enforce union rules on job sites, ensure all workers have valid union membership, report violations of agreements, and handle jurisdictional disputes. However, they cannot cause work stoppages and must report all issues to the Business Manager.

Principal Executive Officer of the Local Union

The Business Manager is the principal executive officer responsible for managing the overall operations of the Local Union. They enforce bylaws, represent the union in negotiations, oversee financial matters, and appoint representatives to carry out the objectives of the organization. This position ensures the union’s compliance with policies and acts as the primary point of contact with employers and outside entities.
